Income and Abundance For Reflectors

I've been itching to dive into how Reflectors can bring abundant income into their lives, probably since the early days of when I learned I was a Reflector. Since then, I've had no shortage of messages and emails from fellow Reflectors sharing stories of how their financial situations feel scattered, unreliable, and in some cases even hopeless. Maybe you've felt these things too.

Enter any Reflector forum on the internet and you'll surely find folks who truly believe that Reflectors simply aren't meant to make great money or that they're not capable of it. Both of these sentiments are 100% false.

Side note: One of the major reasons I wrote my book, Reflector Reframe, was to show our type a different way of seeing things. Having your design operate differently from almost the entire rest of the world can start to feel really heavy if you try to do things the way everyone else does, and you measure your success by their standards.

So let's take this opportunity to reframe the whole Reflector income and abundance discussion. Sound good? Read on!

The relationship between income and fulfilment:

Have you ever had a job that paid well but it was completely soul-sucking? Been there! With Reflectors, the income conversation can't really be separated from the fulfilment conversation because of course you can hustle and grind your way to a big paycheque but what's the point if you're totally burned out and unhappy? Even the most aligned career path can feel like a struggle if you're not in a supportive work environment. On the other hand, knowing the kind of work style you thrive in can make even a lower paying job feel like you've hit the lottery. More on that later.

Tell me how to make consistent income!

I recently had a Reflector share that their biggest struggle was how to find a consistent source of income. What troubles me when I hear this is that a Reflector isn't meant to necessarily have just one consistent source of income. So often we try to wedge ourselves into that single career path box because we see others doing it. Let them have a single source of "consistent" income if it works for them.

Consider this. If a Reflector's energy is variable, if our interests ebb and flow in a chameleon style, and if we're designed uniquely apart from the other 99% of the world…why would you limit yourself to just one way of receiving income?

Maybe it's our conditioning that says "pick one thing and become an expert (and financially successful) in it". But as a grown up, you're allowed to choose your own path. Here's a story from my own experience. For years, every time I had a new business idea I'd try desperately to make it THE thing that generated all my income. I wanted so badly to have either a wildly successful career or a booming business, but it was only recently that I started allowing both to be true. And what a difference that has made! It is more than ok to have a job that serves you in some ways, a business that supports you in other ways, and maybe even some investments that add to the mix as well. This leads me to…

Curate income using your theme of "surprise":

At this year's Human Design Conference one of the speakers mentioned that each type can use their "theme" to bring about financial abundance. For Reflectors, this means letting money show up in surprise ways.

Let me share another example from my life. In 2019 I started dabbling with website design out of necessity to get my own site up and running. Then COVID hit and everyone was racing to get their businesses online and I happened to be in the right place at the right time. I had clients coming in left, right, and centre, on top of a full-time job in a completely unrelated industry. Gradually I slowed things down as I got into building Reflector By Design but every now and then I get a message from someone who wants me to build their website. And guess what? That's "surprise" income I am happy to say yes to for several reasons. First, it gives me a chance to tap into an interest that is unrelated to anything else I'm currently working on. Next, it has a fixed start and end date so I know there's no long-term commitment or lunar cycle decision needed. And finally, saying yes to an aligned business opportunity is an energetic "open for abundance" sign to the universe. 

Staying open to these seemingly random opportunities tells the universe you're open to receiving, rather than trying to force income to flow a certain way. This reminder hits home for me every time I see Sandra Bullock in a movie. As one of the most famous Reflectors out there, the movies she's in range from actions to thrillers and dramas to rom-coms. Talk about versatility! I'm sure there was something surprising and unique that piqued her interest in each one that got her excited to pursue the role. 

It's not just about the money:

Reflectors thrive when they use their energy as it becomes available, and take rest when needed. Having a job or business venture that will make you lots of money is great, unless you're so exhausted that you have zero energy to put toward it. It's usually a case of keeping up with the other Types where we see all the things in their lives and try to copy it in our own.

Discovering and actually living your design is the ultimate choose your own adventure because you get to decide what's most important in your life, and what you can let go of. If you only want a 6-figure income so you can afford a huge house that comes with lots of expenses, you better make sure it brings you the equivalent amount of happiness. Otherwise, what's the point?

I myself am a bit of a minimalist, but only because I don't like clutter. I would never suggest you scale back on what's in your life if those people, places, and things all contribute to your joy and alignment. The problem is that most of us have never stopped to ask the question "Does it spark joy?". Thank you Marie Kondo for helping us pause to ask that question! Money is just a tool. Before you put all your effort into manifesting a certain amount, it's worthwhile to let your mind and soul consider what you truly desire in your life.
