Reflector Q&A: Part 3
Jan 14, 2024
It's time for another round of Reflector Q&A!
The "Ask A Reflector" form has been blowing up lately with amazing inquiries about how Reflectors can thrive as their truest selves. Understanding your Human Design is the first step but once you know a bit about your unique design, there's always that nagging "What now?" question.
Let's dive in to a few of the most recent Qs:
#1 How do Reflectors stay consistent enough to make money, especially when we change types all the time?
The world around us says that in order to be successful we need to pick one thing and go 100% in for the long haul but clearly that approach isn't aligned with a Reflector's design.
But I would argue that making money and being consistent aren't mutually exclusive. You don't need to "be" the same person, experience the same set of emotions, or feel the same level of inspiration everyday to make money or be successful in your paid work.
The secret for Reflectors is something I've formed into a mantra, and it's been a lifesaver: Consistent intention, not consistent action.
Setting goals, whether for a new business venture or your career path, involve having an idea of where you'd like to end up…not how you'll get there. Having the consistent intention to end up in a life of your choosing uses your Strategy and Authority (as well as your values) to make sure you're truly connected to that result. But you can totally be inconsistent in your day to day life and still achieve amazing things.
Anyone who says otherwise probably isn't a Reflector and just doesn't get it. I've experienced income and business success from this approach, which is why I'm so eager to teach how to do it inside my programs.
As Reflectors, we need to get comfortable with butting up against these so-called "truths" of what success has to look like. If you're looking for a great place to get started on your own career or business success journey, I highly recommend joining us in Reflector Essentials.
#2 Do new moons and full moons affect Reflectors even more so than other phases of the moon?
All types are able to feel the power of new moon and full moon periods, so it's no surprise that we Reflectors can get that same experience but with more intensity. This isn't good, bad, or otherwise. It just is. As with all other parts of your Human Design, you get to choose what to focus on, what it means for you, and what you're going to do about it.
And just to clarify, the new moon and full moon phases have symbolic meaning that go way beyond Human Design. Full moons are time of completion and release, while new moons are all about fresh new beginnings. You can use these cycles to build in your own celebration of any projects or adventures you're wrapping up, and express gratitude for whatever is coming next in your life. If you'd like to work with the lunar cycle to strengthen your relationship with the moon, there are lots of rituals out there for you to investigate.
I know plenty of Reflectors who don't pay a lot of attention to the new and full moon phases because they're just not that interested. They still feel the activation of whichever gate the moon is in at that time, but don't focus on the start or end of the cycle.
When it comes to a Reflector's connection to the lunar cycle it's all about awareness and what you choose to focus on.
#3 Do Reflectors need to be inconsistent? Is it harmful to have consistency?
We hear a lot about how inconsistent Reflectors are but rarely do people share that fact as a positive quality of our design. And yet everything in your design is here to support you, never to hold you back. In this case, yes, I believe that Reflectors thrive when they allow themselves to experience inconsistency and face disappointment (or worse) when they aim to be consistent.
Inconsistency is what opens Reflectors up for aligned opportunities that we couldn't possibly dream up for ourselves, and following our curiosity puts us on a path to get there. Maybe it doesn't make logical sense, and guess what? It's not meant to! Decision-making using your Strategy and Authority is a time for your body wisdom to chime in, not your thinking mind.
Now, there is a difference between experiencing consistency (as in consistent intent, mentioned in Q#1 above) and striving to "be" consistent. If you ever find yourself trying to hold onto one version of yourself, you're probably forcing consistency into your life.
When I graduated with a degree in Urban Planning I thought I'd have to be an Urban Planner forever because that's what was expected of me. It gave me cold sweats thinking about how boxed in I'd be. Instead, I decided to leverage my early experience in that field and pivot in other areas I was curious about so I didn't need to stay in one specialized role for too long. That kind of inconsistency worked well for me, and you can find ways to do the same in your own life if you ever feel like things are too rigid.
#4 Are Reflector types more similar than other types?
Interesting question here and I totally get it. All Reflectors have 9 open centres, zero channels, and the same Strategy and Authority. Hmm, that's a lot of similarities.
No other Human Design types have this level of consistency in design attributes, which is kind of ironic because Reflectors are not known for their consistency! However, despite having the same features shown in our charts, our open centres and unique defined gates pretty much guarantee that we will not be the same as any other Reflector.
How you experience your life will be entirely different than how I experience mine, even though we're both Reflectors. Even if you found another Reflector born at exactly the same time as you, such as the case for twins, it still wouldn't make the two of you the same.
Human Design really is the science of differentiation because of how many layers there are to our designs and also how conditioning, what we focus on, and who we interact with affect our overall experience of life. And that's pretty amazing!
