Waiting for 28 Days

28 days decisions human design reflector type Jan 16, 2023

What was your reaction when you first heard that Reflectors need to wait 28 days before making a decision?

Was it something like…

Umm, not in this century!
Wtf does wait 28 days mean?
Who's got time to sit around for a month?
I'm doomed!

Trust me when I say you're not alone if you were caught off guard or thought that waiting for a month might be a challenge in today's go, go, go society. The modern society we live in was not created with Reflectors in mind, and yet it gives us a chance to flex our Reflector muscles by staying true to this wait and see method.

We're pushed by other types to make fast decisions all the time.

This isn't something that's going away, so let's try instead to find ways to weave in a time buffer when decisions are presented to us.

There are two reasons why the lunar cycle is so important, and once these click for you it might make things easier:

#1 The Moon cycles through all 64 Human Design gates every 28 days, or so.

If you need to make a big decision, such as a job change, relationship commitment, or even a vacation selection, wouldn't you want to test the waters before you commit?

That's exactly what waiting a lunar cycle lets you do!

Some of the HD info out there makes it seem like you just sit in stillness for 28 days before some enlightened decision hits you. That's far from how it works. The reason for waiting is to experience how you feel about the decision as if it's already happened on each of those days. This is not a thinking exercise, it's about feeling.

Here's what it might look like for something like landing a new job:

  • Day 1: Drive from your home to the new job location to see what the commute might be like. How does the length of the drive feel? Is the route scenic or will it be bumper to bumper traffic for an hour straight?
  • Day 2: Put on the type of outfit you'd be wearing at the new gig. Does it feel comfortable or stuffy? Is this a stretch from what you like to wear or is it right up your alley?
  • Day 3: Chat with someone who works there. How did the conversation go? Was there a positive and excited vibe or did you hear a bunch of complaints about the company?
  • Day 4: Speak with your partner, family, or close friends about what the day to day impact would be on their lives if you took this job. For example, if your kids would need to take the bus because you're not there for drop off/pick up, does it leave you with a sense of freedom or sadness?

See how different this is from just sitting around thinking for 28 days?

It's helpful to write down how each of these experiences felt for you so you can look back and remember what it was like. The goal isn't to have a pros and cons list. Instead, when you remember each of the past 28 days you may get an excited buzz just thinking about the job…and that's your sign that it's a heck yes for you. On the flip side, if it's nothing but dread, well then I think you know the answer to that one.

#2 Timing your decisions and actions.

First of all, not everything requires a full lunar cycle for a clear decision to come through. I have a sweater that says "Ask me in 28 days" and I get a kick out of pointing to it when my Husband asks me something trivial, like what we should have for dinner.

One of the biggest misconceptions about Reflectors is the belief that we can't be spontaneous.

In fact, we're designed to be spontaneous by keeping our options open and having a willingness to explore. You never know who you'll run into at the art gallery when you randomly say yes to a friend's last minute invitation!

The kicker though is only you can determine where your threshold is between these easy and low-commitment decisions (like a new restaurant) and the higher impact, serious commitments (like getting married). Once you know your happy medium, you'll be in a great position to respond accordingly.

Regarding the timing of your decisions, since each of the 64 Human Design gates have different energies and traits, timing of when you actually do things is important.

There will be times throughout the month when you'll have more physical energy one day, then feel inclined to sit still the next. One morning you'll have laser focus to work on a project, only to feel scattered and confused that evening.

This is how powerful your connection is to the Moon as a Reflector.

And since you're not going anywhere anytime soon, and neither is the Moon, you might as well learn to work with the changing gates. To do this, you can do a search on the interwebs for lunar transits and a bunch of sites will show you exactly which gates are being activated each day. I use Genetic Matrix, so feel free to check them out. I'm not affiliated with them in any way but have found their content to be super helpful!

Ok, so the way you can use the Moon to time your decisions is by checking in with the lunar transits when you need to plan something. For example, if your friend needs help clearing out her storage locker on Saturday and asks if she can count on you, take a peek at the transits and see what's happening on Saturday. I like to buy myself time by saying I'll check my schedule and let you know, so you can borrow that line if it's helpful.

If there's a Generator gate rolling in that Saturday you can expect to have good physical energy, and that would be super helpful if you're hauling boxes. This takes some practice and getting used to but it's actually spooky just how accurate it can be. We'll go deeper into using lunar transits soon, so stay tuned.

Our modern world wasn't exactly created for the 1% of us who are Reflectors and part of our role is to highlight where things aren't working well. The culture around fast decision-making is one place I believe Reflectors can make a big difference by showing the other types what's possible when things slow down a little. Projectors can still wait to be invited, Generators and Man-Gens can still have their chance to respond, and Manifestors aren't being blocked from informing just because we put a little time between the question and a decision. Give it a try!
